February 1, 2013 - Prepping for Home!

I've been so wrapped up in getting the "Red" photos promoted & listed that I haven't given an update on mom's progress the past few days.

We've talked the last few days...so here it is...

Thursday, January 31:
She had another hard day...due to not having much sleep they gave her a sleeping pill on Wednesday night in hopes to help her get some. Well...it unfortunately didn't kick in until 8AM....the time of her first physical therapy session! She powered through anyway and ended up riding the stationary bike for 3 miles & it only took her 12 minutes!!! Awesome!!!

Mom's God-daughter, Sarah, went to visit mom and showered her with gifts to prepare for "Red Day". She took her a blanket with lots of hearts, a red shirt, and lots of hearts that she glued pins on so mom could hand them out. Mom & Dad both said that by the time word got out, people were coming to her room to pick up hearts to wear. She had to hide enough hearts in order to have enough to give her therapists and nurses. So...thanks Sarah...they were a big hit!!

Friday, February 1:
Today, she had to show the therapist that she could get in and out of the car that she is headed home in this weekend. She did a lot of walking today with the therapist. She even walked about 5 -6 feet without assistance!!!

The doctor gave her the option as to whether or not she wanted to go home on Saturday or Sunday. So...she's elected to wait to go home until Sunday so that she can watch the Superbowl at home with dad! Plus...I think Cristi & kids will be there too!

That's about it for now...have a wonderful weekend and keep checking back for more "Red Day" pictures.

Until later...

Mom update (Monday): the doctor's keep saying she's doing well. She is breathing on her own for a while then when it becomes too laboring they turn on the oxygen to assist her but its only around 20%. Then they turn it off again and keep going back and forth. The X-rays are not showing any difference on the pneumonia. They say that this is to be expected though with her body being immunosuppressed ... (from the heart transplant). The cardiologist continues to monitor her heart function and says it's doing great! They are trying to give her lasiks to increase her outflow (which is how to get the pneumonia out) but when they do her blood pressure goes too low so they back off. They are optimistic and say it will just take time. Their first goal is to get her stabilized enough to take out the tube. As a family, we appreciate the continued prayers and thoughts. It's been tough knowing that when she does "wake up" that it will be a new year...but as my dad so wond...
